THE STORY - I came across this wonderful set of buttons at a Brocante Market in another seaside town in Kent, the buttons were being sold as Continental Silver, which my instinct tells me they are but I have been unable to identify the markings on the back of the buttons so I am not selling them as such. The six buttons so wonderfully still in their original case are beautifully engraved in high relief portraying five different animals/birds of the European Countryside they are I think two
Deer, a Dog, a Boar, a Pheasant and a Grouse. But as I have said although I have been unable to identify the markings on the back they too are quite beautiful in their way and there are many of them. It is also wonderful that the dress rings are still in the box, there is one which I think is slightly larger than the others so may not be original, pease see the eight photograph and the fourth dress ring along. They still fit snuggly in their little blue case which still opens and closes tightly with a reassuring snap

AGE - My instinct tells me these buttons would date to circa 1915

CONDITION - The buttons are in good condition considering their age as you can see from the fourth photo their is a little brown staining on the top of the dog button. The case as I have already said opens and closed well and the satin hinge is still strong, there is wear to the top of the case and this is true of the bottom of it too. The cream velvet base of the case where the buttons sit has very slightly discoloured with age and of course where the buttons and rings sit into little holes there is more wear there.

DIMENSIONS (Approx) - The Buttons - just over 1/2" / 1.5cm in diameter, The Case - 4&7/8" / 12 cm in length by 1" / 3cm in width by 1/2" 1.5cm in height

Anyone who knows my shop will know that I loves thing in little case and these buttons are a delight when you open that box I only wish I had been able to find out more about their history and who their makers were. They would make a wonderful addition to any collection as I guess they won't get used now as I am not sure I have seen anyone adorned in such buttons, but who knows one day!
