Beautiful Highly Decorative pair of Antique Wall Brackets

THE STORY - When I first spied this wonderful pair of Wall Brackets I incorrectly thought they were Book Ends as they were sitting as in the final photo and to be honest I fell in love with them then and then it was explained to me they were indeed Wall Brackets and of course I fell in love just that little bit more. I think it is the opulence of the gold paint which has a wonderful warm patina to it, and the impact of the carved stylised swirls holding up their little scalloped shaped shelfs. The Wall Brackets are I am certain made from wood, although they are very light in weight and certainly have age to them, my instinct is telling me they would date to circa 1910, but the Brackets carry no markings or labels so it is difficult to be certain and again my instinct tells me they are most likely not English but instead French, yet again I cannot be certain. But I am certain they are beautiful. On the back of each Bracket two channels have been carved out on top of which a metal bar crosses, this I believe is how you hang the brackets on two nails to give more stability to them.

AGE - Circa 1910

CONDITION - Each of the Wall Brackets are in very good condition, but as I hope you can see clearly from the seventh photo when I pulled off the price label it took some of the paint off too, which is a shame but luckily when hung it is less likely to be seen than if it was on the front of the bracket. There is on each Bracket the usual wear to the paint one would expect but this has helped to create their beautiful Patina.

Of course I wonder about the room that originally hung this pair of Wall Brackets, how it was decorated, what if anything their little shelves held and the excitement their original owner felt when both purchasing them and hanging them. To be honest I think the beauty of their design has transcended perfectly the many decades that have passed since that moment and I imagine I felt just as excited when I spied them as their original owner did all those years ago.
